While local folktales of fairies and elves sparked young Nikola’s imagination, it was in the rushing waters of Lika that he saw pure physics and energy. Watching the mills on the Vaganac stream, he realized that nature's power could be harnessed and converted into useful work—a spark of genius that foreshadowed his monumental hydroelectric projects.
